Car Accident in Singapore: A Step-by-step Guide to what to do

Got into a Car Accident in Singapore?
First of all, touch wood. Nobody wants car accidents to happen. BUT it is still important to be prepared for it so you don’t fluster when the unfortunate happens.
Read through this guide so you’re at least prepared for what to do during a car accident in Singapore.
Step 1: Breathe and stay calm
After a car accident, check injuries on yourself, then proceed to check if others are alright and not in a life-threatening situation.
If the situation is beyond your control, call the appropriate hotlines immediately:
Singapore Emergency Contact Numbers:
Ambulance and Fire 995
Police 999
Non-Emergency Ambulance 1777
EMAS (Expressway Towing) 1800 2255 582
Traffic Police 6547 0000
Step 2: Take a video of the scene and record important information
Take a video of the accident site BEFORE moving the vehicles. Take note of any lane markings, vehicle plate numbers and landmarks in your surrounding. Take more videos/photos as you never know what is needed as evidence for your insurers. It is best to take videos and photos of different angles to avoid blind spots.
The reason behind not moving your vehicle is to make sure you have all your photo and video evidence taken. If you move your vehicles around too much, important information might be lost, and it is words against words. In addition, the emotions during the accident might affect the recount later on during accident reporting.
Record important information of other drivers and/or witnesses:
-
-
- Full Name
- NRIC number
- Contact number
- Home address
- Vehicle plate number
-
Alternatively, you may also request and take a picture of their NRIC and driving license.
Step 3: Call our emergency hotline number 96688329
Call us immediately after getting all the required information. Depending on the situation, our team member will provide detailed guide on your next steps. As accidents happen in any form, further instruction is dependant on the situation on hand. Be sure to clearly describe what is happening, if not you may whatsapp the hotline number with all the videos and photos.
Ride Now Emergency Hotline: http://tiny.cc/ridenowhotline
For accidents which require towing, please also contact the hotline. Our private tow trucks will not be able to tow on the expressways, hence EMAS should be called to get the vehicle towed off the expressways. EMAS will tow the vehicle into the nearest large vehicle carpark, after which our Ride Now towing partner will take over. You may also request for up to 2 pax to take the towing vehicle back to our workshop for evaluation.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide compensation for any transport taken for the affected.
Step 4: At our workshop
At our workshop, you will like be asked to fill in an accident report form which will be submitted to our insurers. All accidents, no matter big or small, must be reported to the insurers. Any failure to report to us or the insurers might mean that the accident is repudiated to you yourself, without getting coverage from the insurers. We avoid any cases where our customers are required to handle their own cases as claim amounts do get very high if the accident was a major one.
To avoid paying for such high excess and damage fees, we have a partner insurance company, on top of vehicle’s existing insurance, which can provide $0 excess and damage in suich unfortunate events. Do enquire when picking up your rental vehicle. This is not compulsory but we high recommend it!
Beware of scams regarding car workshops
We had cases where our customers involved in a car accident saw some “officials” approaching saying they are from workshops. Be very very wary of such people as they may be a part of car insurance scams. Such people stage the accidents and earn money from the victims of the car accidents.
Do call us at our hotline immediately and do not talk to these people.
Never allow a stranger to tow your vehicle away. Keep your guard up and judge for yourself!
